Don’t drink and drive is a much-publicized warning for a reason. One a 53-year-old Canadian learned the hard way.

Earlier this week, the man from Barrie, Ont., drove to South Division on Melbourne Drive in Bradford West Gwillimbury to report a collision that had taken place a few days ago. What should have earned him the title of a responsible citizen instead got him a facepalm emoji from Muskoka 411 on social media.

The man was charged with Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand. As a result, “his licence is now suspended for 90 days and his vehicle will be impounded for seven days,” reports Bradford Today.

“Failure or refusal to provide a roadside breath sample has the same result as failing a roadside breath test,” South Simcoe Police Service elaborated in a police statement. “Your licence is suspended immediately for 90 days and your vehicle impounded for seven days.”

With St. Patrick’s Day coming up this Friday, the police further cautioned people to celebrate responsibly. “Plan ahead and don’t leave a sober ride home to luck. We will be conducting RIDE programs to help ensure this weekend is happy and safe for all.”
